exodus

The great exodus has occured here in Cambridgeland. Tens of thousands of students have fled the city via mom and dad's SUV. Everything that didn't fit was left behind: in dumpsters, on the street, lining sidewalks and porticos. The pictures really do not do it justice. It was in-sane, rediculous!

I admit I have been waiting for this end of the year windfall to happen, with hopes of finding wonderful, designer, useful things for myself without actually looking like I was dumpster diving. If you are unfamiliar with that term, you may want stop here. Anyway, I scored a pair Armani pants for my sis and a hoodie for my hubbie because they almost literally fell into my arms, but sadly, that's where it ends. I really wanted to save the great kitchen table in the photo below from going to a landfill, but the roommates (Mike, E) said no.
Can you imagine? I was surprised that there wasn't better organization to the mess, things that could easily and cheaply have been sent to New Orleans, say. I was happy to spy a few hippies and townies score some pretty good finds (I'm talking NICE things here!), and I am still on the lookout for a few things: bike trailer, shelving, rugs, fan. There are still people moving out all summer so one can only hope.

All this started the weekend our dear friends Dan and Rebecca visited. Here's a shot of them with Mike and E.

A close up of Dan looking rather fatherly. Maybe one day soon D and R will start making babies of their own if I may be so frank.

Not to mention these two yahoos:

And a couple others that I have no current picture of. But I digress. It was wonderful to talk and eat and hang out with them!
