the sound of shattering glass

Si's turning 1 this week, E's 4.5 and I feel like I'm really getting the hang of this parenting thing. Can handle broken glass on the floor, a crying baby, a preschooler who suddenly needs to poop, a whistling kettle and 12 more hours to go in the day, all at the same time, as was proof this morning. It's about handling priorities in the right order. Do so and you won't even notice that the poop has hit the fan. No big deal!
In case you're wondering:
1. stop the kettle.
2. sweep trail through glass.
3. get preschooler safely to bathroom.
4. clean up glass well.
5. pick up baby and apologize.
6. make coffee because who knows what else is in store.
7. smile! life is good.
Now, not to be a downer, but life is very good. Mike and I often point out how lucky we are, that we bare such a charmed life. BUT life is not good for folks in Japan right now, not good for many other people, for many other reasons, in most parts of the world. Through the day to day I never forget this. This Monday is World Water Day and we who have access to clean water even in our toilet bowls, should do something for those who don't at all.
